A MESSAGE FROM THE BOSS
Hi there. It’s Richard Wilkinson here, the guy whose crazy idea it is/was to launch Beat 106 Scotland and here we are the night before we go live!
Firstly, I want to so say a massive thank you to everyone who’s given their time and passion to get us to this point - I can’t thank you enough, there’s too many of you to mention but you know who you are.
Mainly I want to chat about where we are, where we want to get to and maybe manage your expectations a little.
We’ve all seen your passion on our social media channels these past few months so we just want to say, this is not the old Beat 106. This is an online station, set up by people who were involved in that previous incarnation, who are passionate about bringing to air a station that offers something familiar but different. It has a fraction of the budget that all the big players have but we aim to deliver you something that punches well above its weight. The ‘plucky underdog’ if you will… We believe this station deserves a much bigger platform than just online and we’ll be working towards ensuring that future going forward.
A lot of our presenters/DJs aren’t based in Scotland - Robin works in Oman and is kindly providing us with content from there, other presenters have lives outside the music and clubbing community but wanted to offer their time and passion to the people and station that in the past gave them their break and a platform to share their passion. I would love for some of these talented people to have been able to provide us with a weekly show but we’ve all moved on a little bit in 20 years even if we don’t want to admit it!
So that’s one thing.
The other thing I want to say is, don’t judge us on first listen. Even if you love us! The old saying goes “You can’t please all of the people all of the time”. The radio version of that goes “You try to please as many people as much of the time as possible”. There are going to be songs, shows and DJs that you like more than others - that’s OK. The social media community for Beat 106 Scotland has been overwhelmingly positive and passionate about the station arriving that we don’t want to disappoint you but we also want to deliver a product that appeals to “as many people as much of the time as possible” and that’s our aim. We will happily listen and embrace constructive criticism and adjust accordingly. No one is a bigger critic of the station than we are on ourselves.
So enjoy it, embrace it, shout about it, share it, buy a T shirt or something in the shop to support it and hopefully we can build Beat 106 Scotland into the broadcasting behemoth that it deserves to be.
Thanks for reading,
TL:DR - Thanks, enjoy it, spread positivity, we’re listening, be kind.
